The literature recommendations from this curriculum mainly feature masonic authors, but the curriculum is also peppered with works by socialists, homosexuals, and other freethinkers, and even the occasional Catholic! Many of her references are of books that have been banned in past ages. The upper grades include a strong emphasis on history, but predominantly US history, which makes the text less attractive to non-Americans and reinforces the insular and zenophobic US culture for American students. Much better curriculum suggestions can be found free of charge on the internet.

  2. This book had a little to much of a Catholic taste for me. Would probably be enjoyed by those of that faith.

  3. I have made use of this approach. One does not have to stick to a strict structure of cirriculum to homeschool. By substitution and research you can design your home school year by year. The goal is to get our children to heaven and in so teaching the virtues and religious academia is necessary. The literary genius of yesteryear are necessary to teach the morals and virtues we want our children to hold on to. Mrs. Berquist has formulated a good outline for us to follow and use each year of teaching. Nothing is unattainable with God’s help.

DYOCC is one of the best books on the market for new Catholic homeschoolers. Mrs. Berquist has sorted through the myriad educational resources available and provided a sanity-saving, workable list of recommendations.

Following her program will lead to thorough academic intruction that is respectful of the various ages and stages through which children naturally progress.

DYOCC provides a breath of fresh air in a homeschool market rather glutted with how-to advice.

I love this book! I must confess that I even came across a second copy of it and cannot part with either. One is my dog-eared and highlighted reference, and the other is my reading copy. There is so much valuable information here that I hate to be without it. It seems I am always referring back to it. It’s akin to having your own experienced homeschool mentor right by your side. It is a MUST HAVE reference for any classical or catholic homeschool library. Thank you for such a terrific resource!
